Szklarska Poreba is a town located in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, an administrative region in southwest Poland. It is the most popular ski resort in this region along with Karpacz. Other famous cities here include Legnica and Wroclaw. The Karkonosze mountain range passes through this region. Szklarska Poreba is also an important regional center for mountain hiking and biking, with a well-developed network of marked trails and tracks. Szklarska Poreba is situated in Kamienna valley at an altitude of 1900 ft. It has a myriad of natural attractions, of which notable ones are the Kamieńczyk Waterfalls, the Death Curve, and the High Stone. The Kamieńczyk Waterfalls are the highest ones in the Sudeten mountains. They were named after the gorge into which they fall. The gorge is around 100 m long, and quite narrow in some parts. The waterfalls come down in a three-level cascade. Behind the middle one there is an interesting niche, the Golden Cave. It is rich in amethysts and pegmatites.

The aptly named Death Curve is situated on the road between Świeradów Zdrój and Szklarska Porêba , at elevation of 755 m. This sharp and hazardous bend is almost 180 *, and many car accidents have occurred here. From here there is an excellent view of Jelenia Góra Valley and Karkonosze.

The High Stone (Wysoki Kamień) is a peak rising over Szklarska Porêba from the west. It is 1058 m high, situated at the High Crest of Izery. The picturesque rocks at the top form a 30 m pile. You can enjoy panoramic views from the top - Izery Plateau, Jelenia Góra Valley, Karkonosze, and Rudawy Janowickie are all visible from the peak.

The town of Szklarska Poreba has several noteworthy monuments. One is the house of Gerhart and Carl Hauptman, which is part of the Karkonoskie Museum. The building was completed in the late 19th century and converted to a museum in 1994. There are permanent exhibits of the works of Gerhart Hauptman, Carl Hauptman and Vlastimil Hofman. The Hauptmans were German writers and playwrights. Gerhart was awarded the Nobel Prize in his lifetime. Hofman was a painter and follower of famous Polish artists Jacek Malczewski and Jan Stanisławski.

Two other monuments are the graveyard church and the Lucas Mill. The former is a neo-Gothic chapel, originally built in 1650 and renovated in 1819. The late Renaissance altar dates from that time. The Lucas, an old water mill made of stone and wood, was restored and converted to an inn in 1870. The building has an interesting segmented design. These attractions are located at Pistowska St. and Maja St. respectively.

Szklarska Poreba has garnered fame as the mineralogical capital of Poland. It offers a wider and wider selection each year. Sudety mountain guides know where various precious ores can be found and are more than willing to take tourists on trips. More than 50 different types of minerals in Karkonosze and Izery mountains have been classified. Many of them have properties of gems like smoky quartz, olivine, amethyst, agate, mountain crystal, hyacinth, beryl, topaz, aquamarine, moonstone, aventurine, and more. For centuries the main local craft has been glass manufacturing. The Jozefina glass works opened in Szklarska Poreba in 1842. The number of workers rose from 100 at start-up to 683 in 1865. Glass production was the basis of existence for almost all locals. The quality of the glass produced here made the production facility famous after 1850.
